ASF Holds 8th Annual Bowling Tournament

On Sunday March 27th, 2011 the Afghan Sports Federation (ASF) held it 8th annual Bowling Tournament at AMF Centreville Lanes in Centreville, Virginia. Teams consisting of Afghan athletes, both women and men, participated in a day long tournament with several rounds of exciting close games. Teams were made up of at least two female and three male bowlers, included players from experienced to novice levels.

At the end of the second round of competition, four teams went ahead to compete in the semi-finals that resulted in last year's two dominant teams, “Tora Bora” and “Unbeatable” to emerge and face each other in a re-match.

A one round of intense and exciting bowling resulted in team “Unbeatable”, led by Azi Wasiq, beating team “Tora Bora” for the Championship title of ASF's 8th annual Bowling Tournament. This was Azi's second straight time leading his team to a championship title.

At the end of the event, trophies were presented to the winning teams by ASF officials, Wyce Baber (Bowling Commissioner) and Tabasum Lutfi. Trophies were also given to the most valuable men's and women's players in the final championship round, which were Fazel Qayumi for men’s MVP and Roya Ali for women’s MVP.

Overall, it was yet another successful bowling tournament and members of ASF is grateful for everyone's attendance and support.

ASF presents 7th Annual "Homaira Rahman Bowling Tournament"

For the 7th year in a row, Afghan Sports Federation successfully held a winter bowling tournament on Sunday, February, 2010 in Annandale, Virginia. The tournament had one of its best turnouts to date with a total of 19 teams participating. Each team was required to have a minimum of 5 players with at least 2 women players per team.
In addition, a large amount of family members and friends came to show support and be part of this popular community and sports event.

In order to make the tournament enjoyable to all bowlers with different skill levels, this year ASF decided to break the tournament into two divisions. After the first 3 games, the top eight teams with the highest total scores, moved to Division “A”, to play for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and then the final championship game. The bottom eight teams moved to Division “B” to play for their own trophy.

The 1st Place Champions of the 2010 Bowling Tournament was the team called “Champs in Name” whose total average score throughout the tournament was around 840. Tora Bora who had won 6 bowling championships in the past, won the 2nd Place trophy. In Division “B”, team “Quick Release” won the 1st place trophy.

ASF Honors Homaira Rahman in 6th Annual Bowling Tournament

The Annual Bowling Tournament sponsored by Afghan Sports Federation (ASF) took place on Sunday, April 5th, 2009 at Annandale Lanes located in Annandale, Virginia. The competition consisted of 15 teams, including both women and men participants. This is the 6th consecutive year that ASF holds bowling competitions during the winter/spring season, which will be followed by soccer and basketball leagues in the spring season, and will lead to the 13th annual 4th of July events.

The top three teams who were awarded with the first, second and third place trophies included the following:
Champions: Tora Bora
Second Place: Ayenda
Third Place: Moosh

In addition, players with the highest scores in the final round were awarded with the MVP title (most valuable player). Massoud Jami was awarded the MVP for the men’s category, while Shazia Naimee and Tabasum Lutfi were awarded MVPs for the women’s category.

It is worth noting that team Tora Bora has won its 5th Championship trophy this year by displaying great discipline and persistence in their quest for the trophy.

This year’s tournament was dedicated in honor of Homaira Rahman, who passed away last July. Rahman had been an active member of ASF and was part of the first place bowling championship team in March 2008. The ASF family will forever be grateful for Rahman’s valuable contributions over the years and she will be greatly missed.
