ASF presents Spring Youth Soccer Clinic

YouthSoccer

On March 20, 2010, Afghan Sports Federation hosted its first ever Youth Soccer Clinic for kids ages 7-14. The goal of the clinic was to bring the youth in the community together so they could interact with their peers in a fun and healthy environment. Over 40 children participated in the half-day event which included soccer drills, scrimmages, and a break for kids to interact and socialize with their peers. Between playing soccer, eating snacks and making new friends, the kids left the clinic with big smiles and happy parents. Due to the positive interest and responses received, ASF will create a youth soccer team for boys ages 12-14 in the Northern Virginia area. The team will practice throughout the year and play against other Afghan teams during the annual Afghan Cup in July 2010. If you know someone between the ages of 12-14 who wants to be part of the team, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. An Amazing Triple Over-Time ABL Championship Game to Remember

Afghanistan ride Sediq hat-trick to beat Bhutan.

NEW DELHI, India (PAN) Riding on a brilliant hat-trick by Mohammad Sediq Walizada, Afghanistan humiliated Bhutan 3-0 in the pre-qualifying play-off of the AFC Challenge Cup 2012 played at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon near India's capital New Delhi.

In a one sided encounter, Afghanistan were off to a dream start when Sediq drew first blood in the very second minute. It was no stopping for Afghanistan as they buttressed the lead before the break with one more goal.

Afghanistan ride Sediq hat-trick to beat Bhutan.

Sediq received a pass from the centre and dodged past two Bhutanese defenders to place his left footer with ease in the 35th minute.

Bhutan had no answer to the Afghanistan onslaught and found themselves trailing throughout the match. On the other hand, Afghanistan could have increased the scoreline, but failed to convert a couple of chances that came their way with scoreline reading 2-0 at the lemon break.

A possible fight-back was far from Bhutan’s reach and they were once again outclassed by Afghanistan. They were lucky not to concede any more goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Sediq then notched up his hat-trick to seal the deal in favour of Afghanistan in style scoring the third goal in the 80th minute as Afghanistan strengthen their chances to book a place in the qualifying round of the AFC Challenge Cup 2012.

Bhutan will now have an uphill task and are in do-or-die situation to overcome the strong Afghanistan in the return leg match scheduled to be held on March 25.

AFC Cup: Afghanistan march into qualifying round

by Sujoy Dhar on 25 March, 2011 - 19:09

NEW DELHI (PAN): Afghanistan scored a 2-0 facile victory over Bhutan to book their place in the qualifying round of the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup 2012 in the second match in Gurgaon near here on Friday.

Afghanistan had registered a thumping 3-0 win over Bhutan in the first pre-qualifying play-off match on Wednesday. Afghanistan now joined the World Cupper DPR Korea, Sri Lanka and the hosts Nepal in Group-D, scheduled to be held from April 7 to 11.

It was an easy passage for the Afghanistan in the first match, but a resurgent Bhutan gave a decent account in the first half Friday at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium as the scoreline read 0-0 at breather.

Afghanistan after having some nervous moments in the first half were back to business as they went ahead in the match scoring in the 65th minute through midfielder Nadeem Wahid.

They wasted no time to send their opponents on the back foot as Israfeel Kohistani doubled the lead five minutes later. Afghanistan almost got the third goal, but to their despair Hasmatullah Barekzai shot hit the cross-bar.

After the win, Afghanistan coach, Yosuf Kargar said, '' It was good performance from the boys in both the matches. We will need to perform better in the qualifying round."

"We have played against Nepal and Sri Lanka earlier, so we do know their style of play. DPR Korea played in the last World Cup and is a very good team, we will need to continue in the same fashion," he added. He thanked AFC and specially the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for inviting them to India and "organising the matches in such a better way."

Bhutan coach Hiroaki Matsuyama said: ''We played well in the first half, but it was lack of experience in the second half. Afghanistan is a very good side and I wish them all the best for the next round.''
