Millions of Afghans have watched a German-born Afghan win the country's first professional men's boxing match in the capital Kabul.
Hamid Rahimi beat Tanzanian Said Mbelwa for the World Boxing Organisation Intercontinental middleweight belt.
Afghans in The SAFF Championship Semifinals
Afghanistan's 4 - 0 win over Pakistan proved vital in securing a spot in the semifinals of the second South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship in Sri Lanka.
They finished second in the group with four points to earn a spot in the semifinal game against India. It's been an impressive tournament so far and a much improved Afghan team with 10 new faces in respect to 2010 SAFF championship.
Afghan United FC Wins Brishna Cup II 2012 Championship
Afghan Sports Federation congratulates Afghan United (VA), comprised of ASF players, on their championship at Afghan Brishna Cup II held in New York City during Labor Day Weekend. Afghan United defeated Pamir (NJ) 4-0, Afghan Premier (CA) 2-1, and Hafiz FC (NY) 3-0 in the group stage on their way to the semi-finals. In a physical rematch with Afghan Premier (CA) in the semi-finals, Mushtaba Amin scored for United in the opening 4 minutes of the game and goalkeeper Safi Barekzi made several crucial saves, including a controversial penalty kick, to push United to a 1-0 victory and the opportunity to play Brishna FC (NY) in the championship match.
Defending Afghan Cup 2012 champions, Brishna FC (NY), started strong and scored in the opening 15 minutes of the match. For the first time in the tournament, Afghan United found themselves trailing in a game. At half time, the team made some formation changes and scored 2 goals in the final 15 minutes of an end-to-end exciting match to win the championship 2-1. ASF congratulates all players and coaches involved with Afghan United on their successful representation of ASF and Virginia in a regional Afghan soccer tournament.

The Afghan Sports Federation (ASF) congratulates Rohllah Nikpah for winning a Bronze Medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. ASF also extends its congratulations to the people of Afghanistan that have endured incredible hardship for the past 30 years and to witness one of its young athletes win a medal, despite all the hardship and lack of facilities in the country, is a testament to the Afghan people’s resilience and courage. Nikpah the Afghan, represents all Afghans wherever they might be in the world, has unified a nation in much need of it.
The National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan deserves congratulations for operating with little resources compared to the 120 other nations that were not able to have an athlete win one medal at the Olympic Games (list below). Afghanistan’s athletes train and perform in facilities that are amongst the worst in the world compared with what other nations have to offer. The list of the countries below were unable to win one medal despite having far superior sporting venues. The achievement of Nikpah and the participation of all Afghan athletes, including Ms. Tahmina Kohistani, makes the Bronze Medal even more significant for Afghans.
Out of the 204 countries that participated in the London 2012 Games, only 84 countries won at least one medal. Afghanistan has the privilege of joining them amongst the medal winners in the worldwide celebrated event.
The Afghan Sports Federation (ASF) has supported Afghan athletes and their rights over the years since December 2001 and will continue to work with them to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The winning of the Bronze Medal in Taekwondo by Nikpah is a celebration for all Afghans in the year to come.
Afghan Sports & Culture In Washington DC - Afghan Cup 2012
The Afghan Sports Federation (ASF) held the 15th annual Afghan Cup in the DC metro area from July 5th to July 8th.
The sporting and cultural events were preceded by a formal dinner reception hosted by ASF for team representatives, event sponsors, Afghan community leaders, Afghanistan's National Olympic Committee representatives, Afghanistan's National Football Coach, Afghan diplomats and athletes. This dinner reception outlined the schedule, rules and agenda for all participants in the four-day event.
Soccer teams from all over the United States and Canada played in matches spread out over four days. Many Afghan players from Europe and Afghanistan participated in the event despite the grueling heat in the region.
The Afghan Sports Federation's ASL season came to end on June 27th, 2012 at South Run Park in an exciting and high-energy match between Aryana and Afghan United.
An Action Packed and Exciting Conclusion to ASF's 4th Annual Midnight Madness Indoor Soccer Tournament
This year's ASF tournament attracted teams from Canada, NY, and NJ which added further excitment and competitiveness to the event. A total of 8 teams participated in this year's tournament on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at Nzone SportsPlex in Chantilly, VA and Dulles SportsPlex in Ashburn, VA.
