Afghan United FC Wins Brishna Cup II 2012 Championship

Afghan Sports Federation congratulates Afghan United (VA), comprised of ASF players, on their championship at Afghan Brishna Cup II held in New York City during Labor Day Weekend. Afghan United defeated Pamir (NJ) 4-0, Afghan Premier (CA) 2-1, and Hafiz FC (NY) 3-0 in the group stage on their way to the semi-finals. In a physical rematch with Afghan Premier (CA) in the semi-finals, Mushtaba Amin scored for United in the opening 4 minutes of the game and goalkeeper Safi Barekzi made several crucial saves, including a controversial penalty kick, to push United to a 1-0 victory and the opportunity to play Brishna FC (NY) in the championship match.

Defending Afghan Cup 2012 champions, Brishna FC (NY), started strong and scored in the opening 15 minutes of the match. For the first time in the tournament, Afghan United found themselves trailing in a game. At half time, the team made some formation changes and scored 2 goals in the final 15 minutes of an end-to-end exciting match to win the championship 2-1. ASF congratulates all players and coaches involved with Afghan United on their successful representation of ASF and Virginia in a regional Afghan soccer tournament.
